Chin Implant

Chin Augmentation/ implant surgery or Mentoplasty

Chin Augmentation/ implant surgery or Mentoplasty is for patients who have a weak chin due to congenital deficiency, age-related bone resorption or facial trauma. This procedure can be as simple as injecting temporary filler to implanting a silicone or Porex chin implant. The results are a well balance chin in relation to your nose and lips.

  • Everything your need to know about CHIN AUGMENTATION (Mentoplasty)
What does chin implant surgery do?

  • It makes the chin more prominent. It is considered beautiful when, seen from the side; the chin and the lower lip are vertically aligned.
  • It balances the relationship between the chin and the nose, as regards size and outline. This is why this surgery is usually performed together with a rhinoplasty.
  • It can give the chin a more masculine or feminine look, according to the standards of proportion and harmony prescribed for each sex.
What does chin implant surgery NOT do?

  • It does not correct retrognathism (when the lower mandible is retracted and causes chewing problems; this must be corrected with orthodontics and/or orthognatic surgery).
  • It does not correct micrognathia (when the lower mandible is too small and causes chewing problems; this must be corrected with orthodontics and/or orthognatic surgery).
  • Even though it will make your face look more beautiful and harmonious, and it will probably also improve your self-esteem, it will not be enough to make you look perfect. We must be realistic and accept the fact, that kind of perfection does not exist.
  • The surgery

Anesthesia

  • Local anesthesia and complementary sedation, or general anesthesia.

Surgery length

  • Between 30 minutes and 1 hour.
What does chin implant surgery consist of?

The surgeon makes an internal pocket right in front of the chin bone and inserts the implant. In order to do this, there are two possible incisions: a) under the chin, b) inside the lower lip, that is, inside the mouth.

  • Hospitalization
  • There is no need to be hospitalized; it is done on an outpatient basis
Results

The results of a chin implant surgery are permanent, but completely reversible if you wish to look as you looked before the surgery. However, very few people feel unhappy with the results. Your profile will be much more harmonious and proportionate. It is very likely that no one will realize that you have an implant under your skin: you will simply look much better and no one will be able to put the finger on what the difference is.
